Laws and rules
Tribe rules: Out of character
AniWaya follows the general rules of 'Souls, and have no additional rules to that set. We accept members of any race or mix of races, luperci or non-luperci. However, a general lack of participation in pack threads is looked down upon. Though there are no specific Out of Character rules to follow, keep in mind that if leadership of the tribe (as in, the characters) discovers that your character has broken any In Character rules, the proper actions will be taken. Thus, you should keep this social convention in mind when playing, and if your character violates them - make sure it stays a secret! ;)
Tribe Laws: In character
All accounts of a broken law are taken before the Council, who give their judgement based on facts and both stories. Any punishement that is decided on is acted upon by the War Keepers unless otherwise decided.
Adultery
Adultery, whether it be the man or woman of the relationship, is punishable by public humiliation. The mate of the adulterer may choose to end the mateship immediately, without consulting the Council.
Arson
Arson, the burning of one's personal property or the property of the tribe, is punishable by way of public humiliation. If possible, personal items of the arsonist's are taken and burned in return.
Assault
Assault upon another member of the Tribe is forbidden and returned in kind by the victim. Assault upon a person not of the Tribe is first investigated. If found to not be defending themselves, and are rather the instigator of the fight, the wounds are returned in kind by the War Keepers.
Intentional Homicide
The intentional homicide of another member of the Tribe is punishable by immediate death. Homicide is first investigated. If found to not be defending themselves, and are rather the instigator of the fight, the punishment is death. Homicide against a person not of the Tribe, if found guilty, the murderer is turned over to the family of the murdered person. If no family is found, death is carried out by the War Keepers.
Rape
Claims of rape are taken straight to the council. Priests must first examine the victim and the council hears their claim. The suspect is then brought in and examined, giving their claim as well. If found guilty, the rapist is punishable by public humiliation, possible banishment, or the removal of their sexual organs.
Refusal of Contribution
Refusal to contribute to the Tribe, by way of refusing to work or take part in ceremonies, is punishable by public humiliation or possible banishment from the Tribe.
Theft
There are three types of punishable theft in AniWaya;
- Personal theft, the theft of someone else's personal property.
- Theft from the dead, removing items from a grave or a dead body.
- Theft of sacred religious relics, removing items from a holy structure or Priest.
The type of theft can bring about different punishements. Personal theft or Theft from the dead or graves of the dead results in the recovery of goods in question and public humiliation of the thief, which can include lashings, mutilation, or stoning. Theft of sacred religious relics results in immediate death.
Treason
Treason against the Tribe or any members therein, is taken to the Council of Elders. If found guilty, the punishment for Treason is immediate death.
Greeting Newcomers
Any member of the Tribe may greet a wanderer at the borders, so long as they are above six months old. A member of the Tribe leadership, whether it be the Chieftainess herself or a member of the Council of Elders, should be called to the borders to pass judgement on the newcomer.
Mateship
In AniWaya, for a pair to become officially mates, a few different things must happen. When a member has chosen a partner they wish to marry they kill a deer and bring a portion of it to their partner's house. If the reciever of the deer wants to marry them, they cook the deer and offer it to them. If they do not want to marry them, they simply let the deer lie untouched. The marriage itself takes place after the acceptance of the courtship. Both families, the Chieftainess and the tribal council all gather together. The receiver of the deer brings an ear of corn, signifying their ability to provide bread, and the giver of the deer brings a piece of deer, signifying their ability to provide meat. A brief ceremony was followed with a feast and dancing. Both families generally give gifts to the couple to start their new life. Same sex and different sex couples are both accepted.
Mateship Ending
A pair seeking to end their Mateship must bring their case to the Council and each give their reasons why the mateship must come to an end. The Council will offer advice and help to work through issues, but if both parties feel as if they mateship should end, the Council will nullify their bond.
Puppies
In AniWaya, pups between non-mated pairs are looked down upon, though no action is taken against any party. In the case of pups between a member of the Tribe and a non-member of the Tribe, the non-member must either join the Tribe or one parent must relinquish parental control over the pups.
AniWaya was formed on December 15th in 2008. The concept was first thought of by Amber, former forum moderator and one of the founders of 'Souls. The idea has later been developed further by Marit, co-founder of AniWaya and now leader of this tribe, and her sub-leaders James and Sace. The native american lifestyle that this concept is based upon has largely taken materials from what is known and available of information on the Cherokee.
